About Rev. Freedman
Rev. Freedman came to Channing Church the Fall of 2000. She has a rich background in the creative arts, studies in psychology and drama, and superb training and mentoring in the UU ministry. She is a lifelong UU, with a diverse religious heritage: Russian-German Jewish on her father's side, and Portuguese Catholic on her mother's. She grew up in First Parish in Waltham, where she was ordained in October, 1999, and where her parents remain active members.

A graduate of Starr King School for the Ministry, Rev. Amy worked as Director of Religious Education at the Starr King UU Church for two years while she was a student. She served her internship at the UU Church of Berkeley, CA, under the mentorship of the Revs. Barbara and Bill Hamilton-Holway. She completed a year as interim minister of the UU Society of Martha's Vineyard.

Rev. Freedman describes her ministry this way: "As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that each person has worth and that the truth is seen from many perspectives. In a fast paced society run by computers and filled with television images, there is often little time for contemplation. The church has a unique opportunity. People of all ages gather to celebrate, to explore what it means to be human, and to form lasting relationships. I deeply value my role as pastoral counselor, religious educator, and worship leader."

We can only begin to convey the warmth and creativity that Rev. Amy brings to her ministry, and the wealth of experience that informs that ministry. We trust that you will discover those qualities for yourselves as you get to know her.
